What Is A Hot Stone Massage?

A hot stone massage is a natural therapy to help you ease tense muscles and damaged soft tissues. During this therapy a smooth and flat stone is heated and placed on certain parts of your body to amplify the therapeutic benefits along with essential oils. These stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat due to its high iron content or smooth river rocks. These stones are heated to about 130- 140 degrees in sanitizing water. Sometimes, cold stones are used too, in order to relax your muscles. Once heated the stones are then placed along your spine, on your stomach, chest, face, palms, feet and toes.
