Hot Stone Massage
What Is A Hot Stone Massage?
A hot stone massage is a natural therapy to help you ease tense muscles and damaged soft tissues. During this therapy a smooth and flat stone is heated and placed on certain parts of your body to amplify the therapeutic benefits along with essential oils. These stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat due to its high iron content or smooth river rocks. These stones are heated to about 130- 140 degrees in sanitizing water. Sometimes, cold stones are used too, in order to relax your muscles. Once heated the stones are then placed along your spine, on your stomach, chest, face, palms, feet and toes.
Benefits of A Hot Stone Massage:
A Hot Stone Massage not only has physical benefits but psychological benefits too!
- Relieves muscle tension and pain:
The heat from the stones helps increase blood flow to the affected areas and relaxes your muscles, allowing the therapist to manipulate your soft tissues more effectively in order to release tension.
- Better Blood Circulation:
Since the stones are placed on certain trigger points on your body, the heat from the stones can easily penetrate your body tissues, opening your blood vessels which results in better circulation.
- Reduces stress and anxiety:
A hot stone massage can result in mental benefits as well. Several studies show that it eases mental stress, tension and helps you combat anxiety disorders.
