Aromatherapy Massage

What is Aromatherapy Massage?

Aromatherapy massage is quite popular today.  It is a type of Swedish massage therapy that uses essential oils or lotions which are 100% natural and extracted from plants. The purpose of this therapy is to use all the beneficial properties of the essential oils to help keep your body and mind relaxed.  The oils are massaged into your skin or blended with other oils or inhaled as steam.

During aromatherapy, the essential oils are inhaled and absorbed by your skin. They help detoxify the body, affect your mood, and alleviate pain. It is most commonly used with Swedish, lymphatic, neuromuscular, acupressure, and reflexology massages.

Why Should You Get Aromatherapy Massage?

Besides their pleasant aroma, essential oils have multiple benefits. There are many essential oils out there, each with its own therapeutic qualities. Some essential oils keep you calm and relaxed, while others leave you feeling energized as they trigger the system.  They are also used to treat pain, stiffness, asthma, depression, hypertension, insomnia, and so on.

Here are some commonly used oils and their benefits:

  • Lavender, Chamomile, and lemon:  Relieves stress
  • Rose and Ylang-Ylang: Keeps you uplifted
  • Nutmeg, Lemon, and Anise: Aids depression
  • Rosemary, Eucalyptus, and lemongrass: Keeps you energized

What to expect from Aromatherapy:

At the start of your Aromatherapy massage, your therapist will consult you regarding your medical history, general health, sleep patterns, and lifestyle. Based on your health concerns, your therapist will select the essential oils and may involve you in the selection process. This therapy usually begins with three deep inhalations of the oil you choose which is then massaged into your skin.

How often should to go for an Aromatherapy Massage?

This depends on certain reasons. For example, if you want to improve a particular condition, then indulging in this massage at least once a month is perfect. However, if you are addressing a health issue through aromatherapy, then you should add this therapy to your wellness regimen at least three times a week.

Precautions:

  • If you have an aversion to heavy fragrances, you might want to ask your therapist to use a small amount of essential oils for your massage.
  • In case of sensitive skin, you must avoid skin contact with the essential oils
  • If you have a history of allergies, consult your doctor before opting for Aromatherapy

Tips to keep in mind!

  • After your massage, you may feel a little lightheaded or woozy, which indicates your body is detoxing. Hence, you must drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins
  • Essential oils can stain your clothes, so we suggest you carry an extra set of your old clothes
  • It is best to leave the oils on for as long as possible for maximum absorption
